Where does the pet shop animals go when they are not sold after a certain number of months?

People always try and say that animals have need of shelter to be adopted and they say they do not shop at pet. I really want to know.

I work for Petsmart and we keep only the animals there. I worked there over a year and a african fat-tailed gecko has been there all that long. I think he is sweet as can be. Its price has been lowered in an attempt to encourage people to buy. My manager does not animal order until we have room for them. We have to tell the customer that we do not get more hamsters because older have yet to sell. If an animal remains too long in my store, they usually end up being bought by a member. ~ Petsmart usually has animals and adoption. Unfortunately, we have people trying to get the pests to us. Although it is against policy to take an animal after guarantee of fourteen days, we often take it anyway. We've had people leave animals in boxes in front of the store. Of course, these animals can not be sold, so we take care of them until a home can be found.
