Question about water?

I'm trying to lose weight, and I heard water helps. I've been drinking about 2 bottled waters a day, but is that the right amount? (Acctualy, it's tap water poured into an old Aquafina bottle, I hate the mettalic taste of bottled water.) I've given up soda to help with my weight loss, so for flavor I've been putting 0 calorie raspberry flavoring powder into it. Will this affect the benefeits of the water at all? About how many bottles should I drink a day? Thanks :3
Since I need to drink way more than I'm drinking, how can I make myself drink that much without getting sick? I'm usually not very thirsty... :/
