Should the USA help Mexico root out the drug cartels?
We have the prospect of terrorism in our back yard and still we decide it is more important to send troops to Afghanistan?
Seems to me like the Chinese government or the European government should be neutralizing the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The border fence is only effective for children and old folks. Drug runners have airplanes and submarines.
There are so many problems with doing this. The Government in Mexico is so corrupt right now even the communities are. The Communities have people who support the drug cartels because the drug cartels support local hospitals and help fund them.
The local police get easily corrupted and infiltrated by the cartels because the Police make such bad money. The drug cartels just offer them more money to turn a blind eye.
Mexico is practically in a civil war right now you've got people who are fed up with the cartels trying to fix the system that are getting slaughtered. You've got corrupt government and corrupt police departments. Then you've got the people who don't want any involvement in it at all.
Most local police in the USA would not go to Mexico to help because things are so out of control. Ask them they'll tell you you're nuts that it's a suicide mission.
Further more the Mexican Government doesn't want the help because the mexican government is run by the cartels. Even if you where to take out the drug cartels it will just come right back. Mexico is NOT a poor country (tourism is HUGE) the problem with Mexico is all the wealth lays in the hands of a very select few there is no middle class you are either rich or poor nothing in the middle. So the only opportunity for decent money is involved with drug cartels.
Mexico is a HUGE mess right now. The best thing the USA could do is essentially shut down the illegal crossing of the US Mexico boarders so the drug cartels can't get their drugs in the country as easily and their money out of the country as easily.
