what makes the glue from stickers not sticky after you peel it off of a jar or something?

i just peeled off a sticker from a glass jar and everytime i pick it up it sticks to me.. how do i make it not sticky, i tried washing it.. it still sticks

Amanda, if you are removing tags from glass, use paint thinner or liquid spot remover. Either will dissolve the glue that remains on the glass (from the price tag), but won't harm the glass. But don't use them if the bottle/jar is any type of plastic, because it may leave a mark. Only certain types of plastic can tolerate paint thinner. Instead, use WD40, as was stated earlier. It will not harm plastic and will remove any sticky glue residue. Alcohol is often useless.
